Homeless Services

To better enable the homeless for making the transition to the working world, we provide the following services:
  • Mail and Telephone: Getting mail and having a telephone number is crucial to finding a job. This service provides this privilege to the homeless and helps them in expanding the employment possibilities.
  • Information and Referral: Many times finding resources can be very difficult for the homeless. We will also help them with this process.
  • Pre-work Skills and Training:This includes resume service, work experience and computer training. ACT provides a supportive environment for learning appropriate employment behavior, attitudes and skills.

Matt came to the Resource Center as a disabled fireman who had been out of work for about a year and ended up in the ranks of the homeless. When he came to the Center he was bitter and resentful and maintained that he would not work without pay. In a short period of time, however, after experiencing the self-help model provided at the Resource Center, he was volunteering to help with the maintenance and other volunteer-staff duties. He used the Center's mail service and telephone, began taking odd jobs, and using that money for transportation to look for permanent work. After about three months' use of the Resource Center, he obtained fulltime work and is now no longer homeless but is an employed resident of Santa Clara County.
