SAHARA is a
non-profit organization of South Asian professionals who volunteer their free time in an
effort to help serve the South Asian community through an organization tailored to meet
the specific needs of this community in an American society. But in order to maintain a
high level of professionalism and increase our range of much needed services, we at SAHARA
need your help.
There are many different ways that a member of the South
Asian community can help: monetary in-kind donations, donations of time or professional
services, serving on a SAHARA committee, are just a few ways of helping our
community.
Historically, the South Asian community is steeped in a
deep sense of tradition and community pride. We all share a sense of unity, prosperity and
strength that are so inherent and unique to all cultures. The South Asian region is one of
many different subcultures and languages, yet in the United States we are all the same
immigrants and descendant of immigrants who have left their homelands and families behind
to create a new opportunity for themselves.
In coming to this country, our community has created a new
family for itself, the South Asian community. We all gather for cultural events in order
to teach our young and remind ourselves of our culture and its teachings. Nothing is more
inherent in the South Asian culture than the desire to help our friends and family. It is
our duty as a member of the South Asian family in Southern California to help those of us
less fortunate or in dire need of assistance. As in a family, when one of us hurts, we all
hurt.
Confidentiality is a position that SAHARA strongly
advocates in order to protect our clients and provide the best support services |
