History:
SSSM was established in 1949 with one secondary school in a temporary cottage
having only 15 students. Later in 1949, when the Bombay Government started it’s
District Sarvodaya Program, then SSSM was assigned the work for Amreli District.
Initially Laljibhai Patel and then Balubhai Bhatt headed this responsibility.
To concentrate on more important works of rural upliftment, removal of
untouchability, educating youth of the villages, propagation of Khadi and
it’s related work; Balubhai handed over the responsibility of Sarvodaya Program
to Gunvantbhai Purohit (Former secretary and treasurer of Western Labor Union)
and Shrimati Hasumatiben Purohit (Former welfare officer, Jubilee Mill, Mumbai).
In 1957, Babapur Sarpanch Shri Karshanbhai Savalia gave 3 acres of unused land of
the village and then 3 acres more were added by the Government where the construction
of new buildings have started with the kind help of the following people and
organizations:
1.Sarva Shri Nagarsheth Khimchandbapa, Narbherambhai, Kalabapa, Rambhai Savalia of
Babapur village.
2. Sarva Shri Amritlalbhai (Calcutta), Naginbhai Parikh (Jamshedpur),
Dharamshi Mulraj Khatau (Mumbai), Ramjibhai and Kamani Brothers (Mumbai),
Narbheram (Jamshedpur), Girdharlal (Calcutta), Laldasbhai Tribhovanbhai (Mumbai),
Ratanshibhai Pragjibhai (Mumbai), Hemchandbhai of Jivanlal 1929 Ltd. (Calcutta),
Patel Engineering Co. (Mumbai), Yashrajbhai Patil and Shardaben Arjunbhai Patel,
Chaitanbhai Joshi (Mumbai), Damodardas Anandji (Mumbai), Dorabji Tata Trust (Mumbai)
, Nagji Parshottam co. (Calicit), Babubhai of Standard Drugs (Chenai),
Navalshankerbhai Trivedi (Mumbai), Dipchandbhai Gardi (Mumbai).
3.Swiss Aid: has donated 7 lakhs during 1969-72 through its representative
Mr. Pierre Oppliger whom the villagers called DADA.
4.Navinbhai, Anilbhai, Premilaben, Vasudhaben, and Rashmibhai of the U.S. based Trivedi
family and other friends and well wishers of Hasumatiben Purohit, Managing Trustee
of SSSM who have donated Rs.7 lakhs.
5.Saurashtra Patel Cultural Samaj, U.S.A and it’s office bearers :Madhubhai Ramani,
Zaverbhai Bhayani, Babubhai Savalia, Jayantbhai Zalavadia, Manubhai Patolia,
Dr. Natvarbhai Rajpara, Dr. Kishorbhai Vekaria.
6.Gujarat Rajya Gram Vikas Sangh, U.S.A. and its Managing Trustee Laheriprasad Raval.
7.Nandubhai Tank and his family, Ramnikbhai Vandra, Ranjanben, Kanjibhai Savalia and
other past students.
